Night Owl

I came across an image on Pixabay today of this owl and he basically screamed at me to stop what I was doing and play with him today.  Not one to ignore a screaming image, I did just that.  The photographer, Georg_Wietschorke, did an amazing job.

I used two of my Textured Backgrounds and a texture from The Cynthia Collection Part 3.  The final texture was by Jai Johnson.   The textured backgrounds gave the image a slight gesso feel to it, almost like the background was painted.  I like that look in photographs.

Next came Linda Lee Hall’s Tree Branch Extractions to add a bit more detail to the foreground.

Anyone who knows the art side of me knows how much I love playing with light and shadows using curves.  This image is no exception!  Adding curves layers puts a bit more oomph into an image! I am hoping to do a tutorial on that in the near future!

Not only do I love light, but I love, love, love texture on my images!  I made a quicky, basic, tutorial on an earlier blog post on how to use textures.  It really is a very basic tutorial.  There is so much more to using textures than I show in the tutorial, but, it will get you started if you aren’t familiar with them.

Hope you are having a spectacularly creative day!

Artfully Yours,

A No-Strings-Attached Holiday Gift!

You don’t have to be a member of my newsletter, Facebook group or anything to receive this holiday gift from me!  It is available to everyone!

I recently started creating these backgrounds, and I, personally, just love them.  They will be included in a lot of my art from now on, for sure!

My gift to you is a set of two textured backgrounds that can also be used as textured overlays.  I have used them both ways and they work great either way!

Either click on the image or click here for your download!

I hope your holidays are filled with magic, love, peace and creativity!

Artfully Yours,

Time After Time Collection

I finally had a chance to sit down and finish the piece I have been working on for over a week, which inspired the latest kit I listed in the store, Time After Time Collection.

I used pieces from my Charms – Antique Clocks to make clusters, Gesso Texture Backgrounds/Overlays and many Photoshop brushes including paint splats.

I had a lot of fun creating the textures for the background for this piece.  The textures had a bit of a transparent look to them when I set them to Linear Light blend mode.  I liked the way that looked, but many other blend modes and colors can be chosen.

Close up of the textures using Linear Light blend mode to give them the transparent look.
Check out these backgrounds! I LOVE them! They look like distressed concrete to me.
The image that inspired the Time After Time collection!

This collection falls under the 50% sale category that is still going on until the 24th!

This most likely will be my last blog post until after Christmas, so I want to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday!

Artfully Yours,

New Gesso Backgrounds or Overlays

I know I say this all the time, but I seriously cannot wait to play with these!  It seems I don’t have much time to use my products much because I am busy creating new products so much.  Hopefully soon things will balance out so I have time for more of my own art projects.  However, I am in the process of a mixed-media type composite using one of these textures as the background!  Adding the background texture just changed the entire feel of my project, and it’s just what I was looking for!  Of course, I will share when I complete it.

Anyway, back to the new product.  Check out the gesso and canvas textures!

The first preview is how they look at 100%.  The second is what the overall page looks like, although reduced significantly to fit the preview.

I left them in gray scale so you can choose the color scheme of your liking.  (If you don’t know how to do that, I have a small video tutorial planned to show you how, but in the meantime, definitely ask me how by emailing me or finding me on Facebook. I am always happy to answer any questions or help out if I can!

As with all my products right now, they are on sale at 50% off!
